NET ZERO
Thermowave’s Climate Commitment: On the Path to Net Zero by 2040
At Thermowave, our mission is rooted in preserving the natural world that inspires our outdoor pursuits. As a multi-generational family-owned brand, we are committed to designing premium, high-performance garments with deep respect for the planet and future generations.
In 2024, we made a major leap forward by calculating our complete carbon footprint and setting ambitious climate targets aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and the Paris Agreement. This step marks the beginning of our transition to Net Zero — with a clear goal: to reach Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.
Our Carbon Footprint: Baseline Year 2024
Thermowave’s carbon accounting follows the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the globally recognized standard for measuring emissions. Our 2024 baseline emissions are:
Total emissions: 97,592.3 tonnes CO₂e
Scope | Tonnes CO₂e | Description
-------------|-------------|-------------------------------------------------------------
Scope 1 | 9.8 | Transport owned or controlled by Thermowave
Scope 2 | 3.5 | Electricity usage at Thermowave offices
Scope 3 | 97,579 | Value chain emissions, primarily from raw materials
The overwhelming majority of our impact lies in Scope 3, specifically from garment fabrics, which account for 93,133 tonnes CO₂e — 95.55% of total Scope 3 emissions. Within that:
- Yarn production accounts for 90.55%
- Fabric production processes for 8.55%
- Yarn and fabric transport for 0.9%
Our Climate Targets
Thermowave is setting targets in line with the SBTi’s 1.5°C trajectory, focused on deep and measurable reductions.
Near-Term Targets (by 2030)
- Reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 80%
- Reduce Scope 3 emissions across the supply chain by 55%
Long-Term Target (by 2040)
- Reduce total emissions (Scopes 1, 2, and 3) by at least 90%
- Neutralize residual emissions through verified carbon removals such as soil carbon sequestration from regenerative wool farming
Reducing Emissions Where It Matters Most
Given that raw material sourcing — especially Merino wool — represents the largest portion of our footprint, we are focusing our efforts where they matter most:
- Transitioning to regenerative-certified Merino wool
- Incorporating low-impact fiber blends, such as Merino wool with TENCEL™
- Expanding our use of RCS-certified recycled polyester and polyamide
- Increasing the use of recycled Merino wool across product lines
- Introducing repair and take-back programs to extend garment lifespan and reduce waste
Our own production facilities in Europe allow us to manage quality and minimize emissions from transportation, while our long-standing partnerships with suppliers ensure transparency and ethical practices throughout the supply chain.
Committed to the Long Game
At Thermowave, we believe sustainability is not a shortcut — it’s a long-term responsibility. We will continue to invest in high-quality, traceable, and low-impact materials, while ensuring every product we create lives up to both your performance expectations and our environmental values.
Net Zero by 2040 is not just a target. It’s our promise — to our community, to future generations, and to the wild places we all seek to protect.
